Humane interface is a kind-of-blog on how technology can improve people’s life and boost the sharing of knowledge. It’s meant to provide practical guides and theoretical work and hopefully in the future it will grow and become a much bigger creature. It’s kind-of-blog as posts will be updated constantly rather than just being kept stored.
Unfortunately at the moment it’s quite dry as I don’t have much time to spend on it, but I am planning to make it far better than what it is now.
The name of the site was inspired by the reading of the memorable book “The humane interface” by Jef Raskin.
The author (Luca Benazzi)
My main profession: I work as a user interface designer, I am fascinated by design as the art of responding to people’s needs in their environments by offering the simplest and most brilliant solutions.
My university education: I have a strong passion towards scientific research and a degree in Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences.
Interests related to my profession: I am interested in the process of discovering new tools and ways to popularize valuable contents, and for this reason I readapted the knowledge and skills I gained in traditional publishing towards the multimedia environment and I spent a large amount of time on e-learning projects and studying disciplines such as cognitive psychology, information architecture, instructional design.
My professional growth: around 2003, when I was still living in Milan, I started to design informative systems and human-computer interfaces, fascinated by the big potential of IT tools in ordering knowledge, bringing it to life, updating it and making it sharable. I then learned how to make IT products easy to use, no matter if complex functionalities and a large amount and variety of data are requested. I’ve been living several months in Dublin and the last three years in London, where in 2009 I opened my limited company to work as a freelance consultant.
Work experience: I’ve been working on a large variety of projects in numerous different sectors and countries. I have worked in education, healthcare, telecommunications, e-commerce and retail, intranets, and social networking websites, among others. Occasionally I’ve been working with small clients, but increasingly I’ve been a consultant for large organizations such as Expedia, eBay, PayPal, T-Mobile, O2, Unilever, Dubai Holding, Royal Mail, BBC, Sainsbury’s, SAGIA, and lastly, Teachers.TV to name a few. Throughout the whole product lifecycle, my consultancy covered: strategy, research, usability analysis, requirements and scenarios gathering, creation of interactive prototypes, information architecture and interaction patterns definition, usability testing, redesign.
Publishing and training: I have a strong interest in publishing, teaching, and sharing knowledge. I have published several articles addressed to entrepreneurs on the Italian magazine Persone e conoscenze. They cover the issue of how information technologies impact people and businesses. This lead me to create the humaneinterface.net. I like to share my ideas to master the subjects I am most interested in and for which I have developed skills and experience.
Clients I work for: I like to be involved in projects that are useful and where the design makes people’s life better. I like to work with companies that use cutting edge technologies to promote lifestyles that are progressive towards the ecology, culture and education.
